CCE provided structural design services for the refurbishment of an existing 5-storey building, which also formed part of the Grand hotel and Primitivo’s restaurant at the ground floor; converting the 4-storeys above into usable office space. The proposed alterations to the existing structure included a new lift shaft and stairwell which would give access from the basement to all floors of the building.
Following an initial structural survey to assess the load bearing elements and their condition, CCE were able to produce details for the extensive changes to the structure. This included incorporating foundations for a new blockwork lift shaft and a steel staircase which would wrap around the lift shaft, cutting through the middle of the existing structure. In order to achieve this, existing columns and steelwork had to be removed and new steelwork was provided to support existing masonry and timber floors.
