CCE provided our services towards the remodeling and refurbishment works within the Accident and Emergency Department at Queens Hospital, as instructed by the Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The significant structural alterations included the removal of sections of primary load-bearing structure along the existing corridor lines, support of new M&E equipment on the existing roof, and formation of new penetrations to enable distribution of associated M&E.
Remaining fully operational throughout the works, this did propose certain work constraints, such as:
- Confined work site area with limited access routes for structural members and general materials.
- Phasing considerations to enable the existing corridor routes to suit new operational arrangements.
- Review of previous structural alterations undertaken to the primary load-bearing walls, to determine feasibility of new openings and determine their most economic and practical positions.
